In a resounding win, Congress’ Rakibul Hussain has clinched the title for the largest victory margin in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections of 2024. Hussain secured a staggering margin of 10,12,476 votes in Assam’s Dhubri constituency, edging past his closest competitor, Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal, a perfume baron and former Lok Sabha MP.
A seasoned politician at 59, Hussain faced off against 13 contenders in the Assam constituency. Prior to this feat, Hussain had already made his mark in Assam’s political landscape, representing the Samaguri assembly segment in the state’s Legislative Assembly since 2021. Notably, he also served as a minister in various capacities during the Tarun Gogoi government.
However, Hussain isn’t the only one celebrating a landslide victory. Several other leaders have secured significant wins:
- Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a veteran of parliamentary politics, clinched victory for the sixth time from the Vidisha constituency.
- CR Patil, the President of BJP’s Gujarat state unit, emerged victorious with a whopping margin of 7.73 lakh votes in Navsari.
- Amit Shah, BJP stalwart and former Union Home Minister, retained his seat in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with a commanding lead of 7,44,716 votes.
- Abhishek Banerjee, TMC’s MP and national general secretary, swept the Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal with a margin of 7,10,930 votes.
- Biplab Kumar Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura and BJP leader, secured a significant victory in Tripura West, winning by a margin of 6,11,578 votes.
- Hemang Joshi of the BJP claimed a decisive win in Vadodara, Gujarat, with a margin of 5,82,126 votes.
- Brijmohan Agrawal, BJP candidate and Chhattisgarh’s education minister, emerged victorious in Raipur with a margin of 5,75,285 votes.
- Sasikanth Senthil, a former IAS officer and Congress candidate, celebrated a substantial victory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur constituency, winning by a margin of 5,72,155 votes.
These victories underscore the diverse political landscape of India and the commanding mandates certain leaders have secured in their respective constituencies.
