Iran has issued a sharp warning, signaling that any further Israeli actions in Lebanon could lead to “unforeseen consequences” in the region. This comes after Israel pledged retaliation for a recent rocket attack in the Golan Heights, which it attributes to Hezbollah—a militant group based in Lebanon and allegedly supported by Iran.
The Golan Heights, a disputed territory in Syria, is controlled by Israel, a status not recognized by the United Nations. The rocket attack, which struck the Druze village of Majdal Shams, resulted in the deaths of at least twelve people, including children. Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the strike.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani condemned Israel’s response, accusing it of using Hezbollah as a scapegoat to deflect attention from its actions in Gaza. “Any reckless move by the Zionist regime will lead to unforeseen reactions,” Kanani warned.
This escalation follows ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group governing Gaza. Since October of the previous year, the two sides have been engaged in intense hostilities, with significant casualties on both sides.
Iran’s statement also criticized Israel’s moral standing, referring to the civilian casualties in Gaza as evidence of its “massive crimes.” The recent violence adds to a history of tensions, including a brief clash between Iran and Israel in April.
As the situation remains volatile, the international community watches closely, with concerns over the potential for further regional instability.
