Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the health of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, as reports emerged detailing the monarch’s ongoing medical treatment for lung inflammation. The 88-year-old king is currently undergoing treatment at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah.
In a tweet, Modi conveyed his well wishes, stating, “Deeply concerned about the reports of the health of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I join the people of India in wishing him a speedy and full recovery.”
The Saudi state news agency reported that King Salman’s treatment involves a course of antibiotics to address the inflammation detected during recent medical tests. This health setback follows a previous hospital visit in April for a routine checkup.
Since assuming the throne in January 2015, King Salman has spearheaded significant reforms in Saudi Arabia, notably through the Vision 2030 initiative aimed at economic diversification and reducing reliance on oil.
The monarch’s health condition has prompted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to postpone his scheduled visit to Japan. This delay was confirmed by Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi during a press conference in Tokyo.
Prior to the news of the king’s health, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss regional matters, including the conflict in Gaza. Additionally, reports suggest that Saudi Arabia and the US are nearing a historic pact, potentially paving the way for diplomatic ties with Israel. King Salman’s health remains a focal point of concern both domestically and internationally, as stakeholders monitor the situation closely for updates on his recovery.
