YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has been summoned by a Delhi court following a defamation case filed against him by Suresh Karamshi Nakhua, a spokesperson for the Mumbai unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nakhua alleges that Rathee referred to him as a “violent and abusive” troll in a video posted on his YouTube channel on July 7.
District Judge Gunjan Gupta of Saket Court issued the summon on July 19, also granting notice to Rathee on Nakhua’s plea for interim relief. The court scheduled the matter for a hearing on August 6.
In his plea, Nakhua contends that Rathee made unsubstantiated claims in the video, tarnishing his reputation without justification.
“The allegations made against me are baseless and malicious, designed to harm my integrity and standing in society,” Nakhua stated in his plea. He emphasized the potentially damaging impact of Rathee’s statements, which he claims could have far-reaching consequences on both his personal and professional life.
The court’s order, issued to Rathee via multiple modes including electronic means, underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the legal proceedings initiated by Nakhua.
As the case unfolds, it highlights the intersection of social media influence and legal accountability, with implications for online content creators and their responsibility in shaping public discourse.Top of Form
