Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up to mark International Yoga Day with a special visit to Srinagar on June 21st, adding a significant milestone to his third term as India’s Prime Minister.
Celebrated annually on June 21st, International Yoga Day draws thousands of enthusiasts to participate in yoga sessions worldwide. This year, Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), nestled on the picturesque banks of Dal Lake, will host the event, expecting a turnout of 3,000 to 4,000 people.
Preparations for the event are in full swing, with Jammu and Kashmir’s Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, overseeing special arrangements to ensure its success. This occasion holds added significance as it marks PM Modi’s first major public function since assuming office for the third consecutive term. Additionally, it signifies his maiden visit to Kashmir since assuming the Prime Ministerial role.
The event is set to feature PM Modi leading the yoga session, with participation expected from students, officials, political figures, and notable sports personalities. Organizers are working diligently to accommodate all attendees, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience.
Security measures are being ramped up ahead of the event, with a three-tier security blanket to be draped around Dal Lake, securing the area from Dalgate to SKICC. These measures aim to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the celebration.
The tourism sector in Kashmir has welcomed PM Modi’s decision to grace International Yoga Day in Srinagar, anticipating a positive impact on tourism. Mushtaq Ahmad, a local tour operator, expressed optimism, noting that the Prime Minister’s presence against the backdrop of the iconic Dal Lake is poised to elevate Kashmir’s tourism appeal and attract more visitors to the region.
