Tragedy in Uttarakhand: 12 Dead as Tempo Traveller Plunges into Gorge on Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway
A devastating accident on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand has claimed the lives of 12 people and left 14 others injured. The incident occurred when a tempo traveller carrying over 26 passengers veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
According to Manikant Mishra, State Disaster Response Force commandant, the tempo traveller departed from Delhi late Friday night and was en route to Chopta when the tragedy unfolded. Rescue operations led by SDRF and police teams are ongoing, with some injured individuals already transported to hospitals for treatment.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that seriously injured victims are being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for urgent medical care. He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to support the injured.
In response to the accident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. He highlighted the efforts of local authorities and SDRF in providing relief and rescue operations, urging swift recovery for those injured.
The Uttarakhand government has initiated an investigation into the incident, aiming to determine the cause of the accident and prevent such tragedies in the future.
