In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in a swimming pool operated by the wives of two police officers in Delhi’s Alipur area. The incident, which transpired on May 14, unfolded while the boy, along with his father and other teenagers, was swimming in the pool.

Initial reports suggest that the boy’s family suspects foul play in the unfortunate incident, leading them to stage a protest outside the Alipur police station. However, investigations conducted thus far have not yielded any evidence supporting allegations of foul play.

According to police sources cited in the PTI report, the incident occurred when the boy’s father briefly left the poolside to attend to an emergency phone call. Upon his return, he discovered his son unresponsive in the deep end of the pool.

Efforts were swiftly made to rush the boy to a nearby hospital, but tragically, medical personnel declared him deceased upon arrival.

Authorities revealed that the swimming pool, allegedly operating in an unauthorized manner, was jointly managed by the spouses of an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and a sub-inspector (SI) of the Delhi Police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer-north) Ravi Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under section 304A (death by negligence) in connection with the incident.

While investigations have not yet unearthed any evidence indicating foul play, police assured that inquiries into the matter are ongoing.

This distressing incident underscores the critical importance of adhering to stringent safety measures, particularly in recreational facilities like swimming pools, to prevent such tragic accidents.
